LOCATION: Stunning location close to beautiful village on edge of South Downs National Park in East Hampshire not far from Petersfield. Amazing countryside views. The kitchen built into new build barn style house.
Like many people searching for the perfect new kitchen, Chris and Lucy from Hampshire found they were bewildered by the choice that is now available. Realising that recommendation is the best way to find the right company for their project they followed their friend's advice and contacted Beau-Port Kitchens.
Having recently completed the building of their dream home in the heart of the Hampshire countryside, they both had very clear ideas of how they wanted to use their combined kitchen and dining area that they have created in their barn style home, which incorporates ancient beams and the best of modern architecture to provide a light, spacious and airy open plan room with views across lush, green rolling hills.
One of the challenges of the design for Beau-Port's Mark Johnson was to create a kitchen that worked in an unusual shaped room including a curved corner and Chris commented: "We didn't want wall units or a huge dominating island, but still wanted a break between the cooking and dining area and Mark designed the kitchen area to be contained yet still open. The space just flows and is easy to manage and great for entertaining as we can be preparing food in the kitchen and still be involved with guests in the dining area."
The high surround to the kitchen area conceals the worktops from the dining area, creating a good height for the breakfast bar. "Also on the side of the kitchen area surround, leading to the sitting room, we wanted something more decorative, so Mark incorporated some shelves for books and ornaments," continued Chris. "In the past we have inherited kitchens and they have always been a compromise and starting from scratch we could have it the way we wanted it. Mark worked closely with us and our architect on various ideas and he has created a kitchen that works well and has logic to it."
Many practical solutions have been incorporated into the kitchen, with Beau-Port also supplying and installing the Falcon dual range with electric oven and gas hob, as well as the Bosch dishwasher, hot tap and the small integrated fridge for day-to-day items - complementing the larger family fridge which is located in a recess close to the kitchen area.
Further storage space has been utilised above the range and a mix of stain, heat and scratch resistant quartz stone worktops and oak worktops have been used on the handmade British kitchen units, which use the very flat and tight grain of maple wood to form well crafted furniture that will last a lifetime and can be repainted at a later date if a change of colour scheme is desired. In contrast to the Shaker style kitchen furniture Beau-Port installed a contemporary range of furniture in the family's utility/laundry room/boot room.
"My wife Lucy and I really love the completed kitchen and utility room that Beau-Port have designed and installed for us," continued Chris. "Mark is very thorough, has a very good eye for detail, listened to what we wanted to achieve and worked well with our architect. The whole process was a really enjoyable experience, with a much more personal level of communication. We were also impressed with the Beau-Port showroom too and the amount of time that Mark and his team invested in the project and we would certainly recommend Beau-Port to our friends."
