“THE KITCHEN THE HOUSE DESERVES”
Trudy and Steve Carter had already spent four years renovating their beautiful character house at Holybourne, close to Alton in Hampshire, saving the kitchen extension and renovation as one of the final projects. With the kitchen fully installed by Beau-Port in time for Christmas, the couple and their three children were able to entertain 70 guests on Christmas Eve and a further 14 on Christmas Day. “It was a great way to see just how well designed the kitchen is, everything was so much easier, just brilliant to entertain in,” commented Trudy Carter.
The Carter family had a previous kitchen fitted by Beau-Port nine years ago and are returning customers. The couple commented: “We had seen the Beau-Port showroom nine years ago when Mark had designed and installed a kitchen in our old house. When we visited Mark to talk about designing and installing another kitchen for us, we were so impressed with how much more there is to see in the showroom. The showroom shows the traditional styles of bespoke kitchens that have a modern twist, very up to date, and the very contemporary styles of kitchens are well displayed too.”
The Carter’s Beau-Port Shaker style bespoke kitchen furniture is hand-made in Britain by craftsmen using 30mm thick solid tulip hardwood for the doors and frames, with birch veneer used on the inside of the cupboards and drawers. The central island, with its double Butler sink, features light reflecting quartz worktops that contain a further sparkle, with the same quartz used for the worktops around the kitchen. A Total Control AGA is another focal point of the kitchen and can be turned on and off when required. Sockets that rise up from the island’s work surface are another ingenious feature.
A breakfast bar has been incorporated into the central island and is one of the family’s favourite features. “This week I was preparing a meal for the kids with my two teenagers sitting at the breakfast bar doing their homework and my ten-year-old at the dining table, all together in the same place chatting while I cooked. I thought, this is what it is all about, this is the best reason why we had the kitchen done. It is one of Steve’s favourite parts too,” commented Trudy.
Steve Carter commented on the design process: “Initially we wanted either a grey or dark work surface. Mark did two 3D designs for us to look at, one with the dark work surfaces and one with the light work surfaces and we could immediately see how much better the lighter colour would work, reflecting more light. The 3D designs and Mark showing us different options really helped us to make the right decision. In fact Mark wouldn’t let us make any bad decisions, yet we never felt forced to do things in a particular way. He knows us so well, even after the 9-year gap; and we had a lot of trust in him.”
“Mark seems to instinctively know what we want even before we know it! He is the best at knowing how to make the most use of the space and natural light.” continued Steve. “Mark worked well with our architect and builder and his team worked so well around the building works, which were still going on during the kitchen refit. Beau-Port’s installation was seamless and it was as painless as it could have been and better than we imagined. We only needed to have a temporary kitchen in another part of the house for two weeks, so there was no need to move out of the house,” said Steve.
There are many elements of their new kitchen that the Carter’s love and Trudy has listed them for us: “I love the bi-fold doors to the wall cupboards that hide the kettle, all the tea and coffee making bits and appliances. I also love the way that Mark designed in the beaded lighting that comes on when I open the door. Another favourite area of mine is my baking cupboard which is similar to the drink making area with bi-fold doors and is located close to the island, very handy for when I am baking.”
“We love to entertain. We have friends around on Friday evening’s and they all gather around the island. It feels like the hub of the home, with people sitting at the breakfast bar chatting while I cook. It is such a sociable space,” continued Trudy.
In terms of price and value for money, Steve Carter commented: “We felt that the price for the design and installation was very good and we were surprised at the overall cost for such a good quality kitchen, We expected it to be more. We have gone for a high end bespoke kitchen and we are really pleased we did, as it is the kitchen the house deserves. Our architect and builder were also very impressed with the quality.”
“Beau-Port has given us our ‘forever’ dream kitchen,” said Trudy. “Mark and his team were brilliant. Everything was so well organised and we felt very well looked after. We know that Mark manages a number of other projects at once, but he makes you feel as though you are his only client. He seems very pleased and proud of the projects he completes and he really deserves to feel that way. We have already recommended Beau-Port to our friends and family.”
