Unique bespoke design creates warm and inviting contemporary kitchen

When looking for a new supplier of goods and services most of us turn to the internet and that was exactly what Adam Day did when looking for a new kitchen designer and installation service. He came across the Beau-Port Kitchens and Interiors website and was impressed with the range of kitchens he saw on the site. “I also asked my builder if he could recommend anyone and by coincidence he recommended Beau-Port to me as he had previously worked on a project with Mark and his team,” commented Adam Day.

The project presented an interesting challenge for Mark Johnson, Head Designer at Beau-Port - designing a kitchen in a house that had not yet been built. The Day family’s new home was still under construction and Adam and his wife Nicky wanted the kitchen design to make the most of the exposed oak timber that frames and supports the house. “We wanted something contemporary but softer in some ways, more in keeping with the exposed oak timber frame, something that reflected the lasting stability of natural wood and Mark interpreted what we wanted and our ideas very well,” continued Adam.

The contemporary, yet timeless design was then transferred into a 3D version and Adam commented: “Mark understood the dynamics of the kitchen and utility/boot room very well and we were very happy with his layout design, all supported by a 3D design image which gave us a good feel of what the kitchen would look like. We had great confidence in Mark as he really listened to what we wanted to achieve but also took on board how we wanted to use the spaces. We didn’t get this from other kitchen companies that we had used in the past.”

“The utility and boot room were not originally on the plan, but it made sense to get Beau-Port to also design these and have a flow of design throughout,” continued Adam.

As well as a range of bespoke Shaker style, modern traditional and contemporary German kitchens by Rotpunkt, Beau-Port designs unique new kitchens and interiors to meet customer’s needs and tastes. This project allowed Mark Johnson to create a totally new kitchen design that would complement the structure of the new building.

The Day family wanted a contemporary look, yet softer, warmer and in keeping with their new home, so Mark created a modern painted kitchen design that uses the very best flat birch veneered doors with 100mm x 100mm oak block timbers that frame the kitchen. The doors are painted in Farrow and Ball ‘Elephant’s Breath’, a warm neutral colour that also reflects the light. “Mark helped a lot with selecting the colour of the kitchen and knows how different colours will look in different situations and light, both with the units and the natural quartz granite stone work surfaces,” continued Adam.

The quartz stone is also used as a splash back behind the sink creating a practical solution and keeping the clean lines of the design. Glass cladding has been placed behind the AGA that is not only practical but reflects the light at the end of the kitchen.

Some of the many features that the Day family are currently enjoying are the breakfast bar at the end of the island, the storage solution under the built-in seating in the dining area, the mobile laundry trolly in the utility room and all the great storage and hanging solutions in the boot room.

The Day family also had an AGA fitted and as Adam commented: “The AGA introduced an interesting element. We knew that a more clinical, minimalistic kitchen would not have worked so well. We wanted a contemporary kitchen with neutral colours, yet with warm tones that will be robust, looks good, is practical and very easy to live with and that is what Mark and his team have created for us.”

“It has been great working with Mark and his team and he was with us from the first to the last on the project - fitting on time, very much to our satisfaction, great attention to detail and no problems throughout. We are very pleased with how the whole project went. Mark knew every detail of every part of our project and has good visual impression and memory for all the design details. We are very pleased with the finished project and will recommend Beau-Port and be using them again on our other property project.”
