Storage is key to a great kitchen design. However, that does not necessarily mean you need more cupboards. German manufacturing is renown for its innovation and that's also apparent in our German contemporary kitchen range. Choose cabinets that make the most of all the available space, door storage space, deep draws, horizontal units that are wider than traditional cupboards but not as deep. Making them easily accessible encourages you to use of the space efficiently, waste disposal bins that enable you to sort the recycling from the rubbish, Grand Prix corner units use the whole of a corner cupboard effectively, roll front counter top shutter units hide away kettles and other appliances that would otherwise clutter up the work top.

Choosing the right lighting will ensure the space changes with the way you use it. At Beau-Port we can recommend or organise tried and trusted local trades people for all your renovation needs, alternatively we are happy to work with your own tradesmen. Whatever you choose to do, its important to plan your lighting scheme early in the design process. Under cabinet lighting will flood the work tops with light when preparing food, internal cupboard lights are great for displaying personal items and glass or helping to keep cupboards organised. LED lighting beneath the worktop is perfect for  handle-less designs, highlighting the door and draw profiles. Floor level lighting can extend the look of the floor space or make islands and wall units appear to float. Overhead lighting should not overpower the room or cast shadows on the work spaces, centrally controlled or remote controlled dimmers change the mood and personality of the room, pendant lights over Islands add impact.

Much as we may love the smell of fresh roast coffee or baked bread its important to clear the air, to keep your new kitchen fresh. Building regulations in new builds and extensions specify extraction needs but when designing any kitchen careful consideration should be given to the extraction and any ducting that's required before work starts,. There are lots of options available, ceiling mounted extraction over and Island provides a clear line of sight as does extraction which is integrated into the hob, pop up extraction provides another option to wall hung extractor fan. Latest technology from Falmec provides extraction, air purification and light. a beautiful statement piece which requires no ducting. The perfect solution when beams and supports pose a real problem.

Bring the whole design together with the worktops and flooring. There is a long list of natural and man made options available. Stone floors and polished metal work tops in steel and copper work well in contemporary bistro and industrial style kitchens. Stone and granite are hard wearing with beautiful natural highlights and colours, Quartz is an alternative to natural stones, sparkling white quartz and other light colours will bounce light around the room. Wood adds texture and exudes a feeling of warmth. Seamless work tops can be extended into the back splash, providing clean lines with no visible joins.

Other things to consider at the planning stage are appliances, built in V integrated, sink and taps, hobs and ovens. Add to your wish list other items such as boiling taps, waste disposal units, multiple or multifunctional ovens and any utility requirements. Decide early what you might be prepared to compromise on should the need arise.
