Meet Our Designers
Design expertise is one of the most important skills to look for when you are seeking the perfect partnership with a kitchen and interiors design company, when planning any home improvement, especially in the kitchen area. With so many factors to consider - selection of the right furniture, layout, flow, appliances, lighting, flooring, worktops etc.
Our designers at Beau-Port have a wealth of design expertise, with head designer Mark Johnson’s two decades plus of experience in creating beautifully designed kitchens and interiors.
As a family run company, Mark has imparted his knowledge, expertise, problem-solving skills and enthusiasm to his son Jacob, who has been designing some interesting projects including a contemporary kitchen for a boutique Bed & Breakfast on the South coast. This particular project had to be approached in a different way to designing a kitchen for domestic family use alone. The kitchen had to be planned to work well as a working kitchen providing high-quality breakfasts for a large number of guests, who often required their food within a limited time frame.
The B & B is located within an extended Art Deco building and Jacob has designed a kitchen that is fresh and contemporary, yet at the same time complementary to the historic design of the building. The owners also wanted a kitchen that didn’t look like a commercial kitchen, favouring the warm soft tones of wood effect panels to contrast with the white doors.
The owners wanted a separate office area within the kitchen to do all his B & B paperwork, and that was tucked away behind a mid-height unit that not only cleverly separated the office area from the kitchen, but also provided a practical storage solution close to the kitchen sink, dishwasher and drinks preparation area and is ideally located to store all the B & B china and glassware. Jacob also incorporated some further clever storage with a roll down counter top shutter unit that hides the toasters neatly away out of sight when not required.
Beau-Port also custom-built units for the concealed utility area, just behind the office area, to house freestanding washing machines, plus a tall unit to hide the boiler. Some tall storage units were also part of the plan and Jacob Johnson commented:
“We felt that rather than the units being set on the floor like normal tall units, we came up with the idea that it would look far better to have them all in a line, built into a frame jutting out of the wall to give them a ‘floating’ effect.”
The client commented:
“We had not seen the ‘floating’ unit idea before and also not seen the kind of products that Beau-Port have anywhere else. We also hadn’t seen a contemporary style kitchen with the wood effect that also had the texture of the wood grain and we liked the warmth and texture of this material when Beau-Port showed it to us. The product was so different to what we had seen elsewhere and no more expensive and very good value for money, not just for a kitchen, but also office and utility area and a bespoke sideboard unit for the living dining area.”
“Jacob has a natural flair for design, with a really creative and imaginative approach and he is producing some very exciting designs for our clients,” commented Mark.
