In a pretty village in Hampshire our clients had decided to renew their kitchen floor. However, they soon realised this would involve removing the current kitchen, presenting the ideal opportunity to redesign and replace the kitchen furniture. Their beautiful home built in 1840 and had a number of design challenges; including limited light due to the low ceiling and long narrow shape of the room plus odd angles which often go hand in hand with old or historic buildings. With no options to extend, Mark the senior designer at Beau-Port Kitchens looked at how the kitchen could be redesigned to make best use of the available space. Using a clever innovative design, he transformed the the kitchen into a lighter, brighter more practical space with additional storage.
Mark addressed each of the individual problems. Using bespoke handmade shaker style kitchen furniture meant he was able to alter the plinth hight to create more space in the cupboards, pretty detailing on the skirting created feet which complemented the age of the building and the beams, double width draws maximised the draw capacity, designed to fit the space there were no limitations when it came to achieving the full potential. The sink was set at an angle looking out towards the garden. Not only did this enable Mark to create a small peninsular with storage on both sides, it also meant that when working at the sink or worktops the user could engage with family and friends in the dinning area and benefited from the natural light available which flooded in from the patio doors. The furniture was designed to accommodate the low ceilings, tall fridge and microwave which freed up valuable space on the the worktop. Reflective light worktops bounce the light from the clever bead lighting and recessed spotlights around the darkest end of the room, giving a contemporary, clean, modern, twist and spacious feel to a traditional handmade painted kitchen. A tall pull-out draw was designed to accommodate Kate's many baking trays, a great way to keep large kitchen equipment tidy when not in use.
"It was so good to work with a company that could supply and manage all aspects of the refit including the appliances too," said Kate.
"It was a great team effort with Mark's design and project management- in fact there are a lot of clever people on Mark's team.Every day there was someone here, moving the project forward and Mark was charming and very helpful. We are delighted with the finished job and the sense of spaciousness that we now have in the kitchen as well as all the extra storage. We would highly recommend Beau-Port to anyone thinking of getting a new kitchen," concluded Kate.
Beau-Port Kitchens designed, managed the manufacture and installed this beautiful handmade Shaker style bespoke kitchen as well as managing many other aspects of the project including the electrics, plumbing, lighting and fitting of a water softener.
